Because imo and many others sound quality and lag are better on vent, it's what all the main guilds use and i find it simpler to use and setup too.
That and there's sb vent too...

^ OMG clone :P

Vent : Because you can control other people's volume levels individually! Very handy with loudmouths who won't adjust thier mic volume to the rest.

I have used both for my guild. We have all come to the conclusion that Vent does provide a much clearer sound quality and does not create as much lag. Yet this as with all things is a personal opinion.

Personally TS is much easier to configure, with more options, where for vent the options just don't seem to be there.

I also can't say I've ever had a problem with lag on TS...

It is too bad TS has lower sound qualities than vent does, but unless your comparing them side-by-side its not something people will really notice after using it for a little while (at least after using TS exclusively for a while didn't find myself cursing the low-quality, I don't think it ever really crossed my mind). The problem then just comes from idiots who refuse to properly setup their mic (And that isn't a problem unique to TS).

I've used both for years (other games)...as someone else said, if you're having sound quality or lag issues with either one, it's more about the codec being used and the host than the program itself. I've had equally good (and bad) experiences with both programs. One TS host I knew set up multiple channels with different codecs and bandwidth requirements so as to account for different users (everyone just used the "lowest common denominator" channel depending on who was on at the time). Personally I like vent for the comment features, otherwise they're pretty much equal.

There's a setting for voice activation in TeamSpeak...

TS > Vent

Ventrilo seems a bit, awkward with settings, it's just not as clear. And TS has a nice clean look, and good interface.

I think vent is better then TS for 2 reasons.

#1 Comments - These are very usefull at most times for many reasons.

#2 Sound Effects - This is something not many people know about but if you right click someones name, go to Misc. then to sound effect you can adjust peoples volume from 0% - 800% great for managing the people that come in with really loud outbound.

I don't know if TS has those things though, I know they have a form of comments but thats it.

I repeat VENT does not have better sound quality. TS does not have better sound quality.

The quality is dictated by the CODEC used. If you are TS or Vent admin you can select which codec you prefer (less compression will increase latency).

Vent does support a slightly less compressed version of the Speex or GSM codec. HOWEVER, barely any server I have been on uses this codec. Most of them select the "medium quality" codec - especially if you have a lot of people on the server.

The difference is the interface - that is pretty much it.
